“Flags are very powerful symbols, and clearly this flag has become a symbol of a negative aspect of our past,” Carter Beard, president of Annin Flagmakers
Our nation’s oldest and largest flag manufacturer, Annin Flagmakers, decided that they will stop the production and sale of Confederate flags after the fatal shooting in Charleston, South Carolina last week. Although their Confederate flag sales were low to begin with, they knew they resonate a feeling that could insult clients. Annin aren’t the only ones who are pulling Confederate flag styled products off their shelves. Major retailers including eBay, Amazon, Sears, and Wal-Mart will all stop their sale of the flag merchandise. The flag has also recently been removed from South Carolina’s state capitol’s grounds.
