Target Being Criticized For Selling Sexist Apparel

Target is facing backlash for selling sexist apparel that was available in stores and online. The sexist women’s shirt has the word “trophy” written in bold letters across the front. Customers who took offense to the shirt called it demeaning and took to social media to share their opinion. They demand that the shirt that is being targeted to young females be removed from the shelves because it encourages rape culture. The upset shoppers are working toward a 1,000 signature goal on Change.org to which they currently have 830 supporters. A Target representative commented on the uproar to USA Today and stated, “It is never our intention to offend anyone and we always appreciate receiving feedback from our guests.” She described how the shirts were apart of  an engagement and bridal line that have “received an overwhelmingly positive response from our guests.” Visit the link provided if you would like to sign the petition against the shirt.
