NY Times x Google = Cardboard Virtual Reality Viewer!

NY Times x Google = Cardboard Virtual Reality Viewer!

We’ve posted it on Instagram and have been using it during our lunch break here at the office, so now it’s time to introduce our daily dose of promotional wonders! This is the Google Cardboard VR viewer, a virtual reality movie viewing experience through a piece of cardboard and an app you download on your phone. If you’re a NYT home subscriber, you should’ve received your very own miraculous cardboard this past weekend.

How it works is that you choose a virtual setting through the NYT VR app and place your iPhone/Android in the slot in front of the peak holes. By moving your head 360 degrees, you’ll get a 3D panoramic view of whichever setting/picture you choose. The New York Times has already created a film to watch via the app and the VR viewer: The Displaced, which shows the story of three children living as refugees in South Sudan, Ukraine, and Syria.

Not only does the picture seen through the VR viewer play as a great promoter (create and play a showcase video), but also the cardboard itself has the imprint space to be customized. These VR viewers are taking up the trending hashtags on social media, so get with the program and try to promote your company through this promotional product!
